Right here in St Louis, William Seward Burroughs developed and patented the first successful “Calculating-Machine" ushering in the age of the modern computer. Eventually, the company moved into programmable ledgers and then computers. At one point it was one of the largest producers of mainframe computers in the world, also producing related equipment including typewriters and printers.
